If you love to sing and if musicals are your thing, then don't miss the special screening of
The Sound of Music at the Melbourne Arts Centre this July.
Now, if you're reading this and thinking 'I've already seen
The Sound of Music a dozen times. Why do I need to spend good money to see it again?'
Let me assure you that this is no ordinary film screening. Not only is the event being held in the glorious State Theatre and it is also a live sing-a-long. That means you will get to sing along to all the songs you know and love from
The Sound of Music – like 'My Favourite Things' and 'Do Re Mi' – and you get to do it without shame or embarrassment!
If you've never seen
The Sound of Music before and want to know what all the fuss is about, then this is the perfect way to experience the magic for the first time.
This family-fun event starts with a live warm-up lead by a surprise guest, followed by a costume parade with prizes, so get out that lederhosen! In previous years, audience members have dressed up as anything and everything from the movie: Maria, girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, nuns, plumbers (in honour of the film's star, Christopher Plummer) and even the Swiss Alps; so don't be afraid to go all out.
After the costume parade comes the screening in State Theatre. This is the part where you get to live-out your fantasy about being in
The Sound of Music. Cheer for Maria, hiss the baroness, boo the Nazis and sing along to all your favourite songs from the musical. Song lyrics will be projected on to the big screen, so don't panic if you can't remember the words. Also, everyone in the audience will be singing along with you, so there is no need to feel embarrassed about belting out "the hills are alive" at the top of your lungs.
So tear the curtains, take you vows, clear your throat and prepare for a fantastic event that promises to be fun for the whole family. There will be three shows in July this year, including a kid-friendly matinee at 1pm on Saturday the 21st.
Tickets are on sale now so hurry up and
go online or visit the box office at The Arts Centre because they will go fast.
