What a find! Simon's is a gourmet produce, deli, butcher and cafe rolled into one. The produce will tantalise your taste buds, the service is fantastic and there is convenient parking. The coffee is good, the fresh juice and smoothies are delicious and the menu is great. It doesn't get better than this!

I was searching for, and not having much luck finding, an unusual ingredient. A friend suggested I try Simon's. I had driven past but had never been inside before. BINGO! Ingredient found!

I had also discovered a passionate, family run business, who were genuinely helpful and more than happy to order any future ingredients, standard or random, if required. This is great as this year I embarked on a journey to learn to cook more than meat and three veg. Recently, my culinary experiences, and list of ingredients to experiment with, had been rapidly expanding.

They also didn't mind the kids looking around, which was a nice change from some other places I'd visited where we had received the evil eye just for walking in the door!

After I found what I was looking for the kids and I meandered around the store. Our eyes grew wide as we took it all in. There is a lot to see in this store.

There was a wide range of gourmet produce that would suit any foodie or anyone looking for something unique or hard to find.

The fruit and vegetables were fresh and are carefully selected from the markets. They really value quality here.

There was a fantastic selection of gluten free products, which is great for families with food allergies or intolerances. There were a large range of sauces, breakfast cereals, spice mixes, infused oils and pasta dishes. In fact, it had the best gluten free range of pasta that I have seen, with all shapes and sizes to suit any pasta lover.

I had a great chat with the owner as I was impressed by the variety and quality in the store and wanted to know where they sourced their produce. The owner was friendly, open and unaware that I was anything other than an inquisitive customer. I learnt that products are carefully selected to ensure they meet Simon's high-quality standards and anything that does not meet the cut does not get past the door.

In addition to the fantastic food, there were fresh flowers and unique gifts, fantastic if you needed to pick up a gift while doing a bit of shopping.

There is a large range of lollies, chocolates and nuts, some of which I haven't seen since I was a child. They are charged by weight and are in handy plastic takeaway containers. There is also a large selection of cookies, biscuits and Swiss chocolate.

The chocoholic and inner child in me couldn't resist and I picked up some large chocolate freckles, strawberry creams and Turkish delight. The kids chose some apricot logs, a surprising, but maybe healthier option!

There was a well thought out butcher, delicatessen, with cuts of meat to suit every carnivore in the family. Again the service shone and the butcher happily answered mine and my children's questions. The quality is second to none.

The large selection of delicious looking, reasonably priced, ready made food surprised me. There were quiches, lasagne, curries, pasta sauces, salads and desserts. There were plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options to ensure that no one misses out. This would be a great place to pick up a tasty home style meal on the way home from work.

Simon's also offers catering - great for business functions or parties. Something I will definitely be keeping in mind for Christmas and birthday parties.

The cafe has a well thought out menu for all dietary needs with many vegetarian and gluten free options. We were there at lunch but couldn't go past the All Day Breakfast Menu. I enjoyed a great coffee and Simon's Big Breakfast with chilli beans to die for and the kids had pancakes and a smoothie. If you are on the run, you can order takeaway or order a coffee and pick up a pre-cooked meal.

I have been back to Simon's and are sure to visit again as my experience and cooking repertoire expands beyond meat and three veg. I also will be back closer to Christmas to buy the teachers a gift or two.

Whether you are a foodie, need a unique ingredient or value quality, Simon's is worth a visit. Drop in, enjoy the coffee and browse in the shop and if you like chocolate or lollies don't forget to buy a container or two of your favourite childhood sweet. Go on, you deserve it!
