Relive the romance and the glamour of Old Hollywood by attending a FREE screening of the 1926 silent film,
The General, at the Bassendean Outdoor Cinema on Saturday, the 24th of February at 7.45pm. The film is being shown as part of a community event hosted by the Town of Bassendean and the Bassendean Outdoor Cinemas. Entitled 'Silent Screen Live Sounds', the gates open at 6.30pm and close at 9.30pm. The film screens at 7.45pm. 'Silent Screen Live Sounds' is a pet-free and smoke-free event.
To help bring the critically acclaimed film to life, the award-winning band,
Viola Dana , will perform an original music score to accompany the film screening. Viola Dana is a band based in Perth, who have made a name for themselves by using folk, jazz and contemporary classical music to create and score soundtracks to silent films. Viola Dana has received standing ovations in Toronto, Ottawa and New Year City, and have provided scores to
The General (1926),
Sherlock, Jr (1924),
The High Sign (1921) and
Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922).
Before the screening of
The General, 'Silent Screen Live Sounds' will show a locally produced short-film called
Well Played, which was made by students from Cyril Jackson Senior High School as a student project.
Well Played will also be accompanied by a live musical score from Viola Dana. 'Silent Screens Live Sounds' is a free event but tickets are essential. You can book a ticket via
www.communitycinemas.com.au . When you book your tickets, you can also pre-order bean bags, rugs, pizzas, food and cheese packs as well. 'Silent Screens Live Sounds' is on the same night as the Old Perth Road Twilight Markets, which are just a 5-minute walk from the Bassendean Outdoor Community Cinemas. Prior to the start of the film, why not visit the twilight markets and browse the stalls, grab something to eat and enjoy some of the live music performances. The Twilight Market start from 5.30pm.
