FREE movies all November
Here is a great free outing. Despite the name it has nothing to do with Christmas although it is a great chance for a family get together. Every Saturday night in November there will be free movies in Carlton. This is old fashioned entertainment for a new audience.
Sounds of Silent are five lively and accomplished musicians who also have a love of old movies. They recreate the silent movie experience from the 20s & '30s but with fun and popular music that the whole family are going to adore.
This is a great chance to introduce your kids to some of the great classic comedies and comedians. Like the generations before them once seen never forgotten.
Trying to watch these at home with restless youngsters accustomed to the whizz bangery of contemporary media just wouldn't work. But in this setting and with a band as backing it works a treat. Plus some of the improvised music is really funny. See the clip below.
Saturday 16th November - Collection of Laurel & Hardy shorts
Saturday 23rd November - Charlie Chaplin's 'City Lights'
Saturday 30th November - Buster Keaton's 'Steamboat Bill Jr.'
Seating is provided but you might want to bring a warm blanket. If it rains unfortunately the event will not go ahead.
No need for tickets. Just turn up. Afterwards you might want to eat at one of Lygon Street's multifarious restaurants. The new Brunetti is worth checking out. An golden oldie in Carlton with a new twist - a bit like these movies.
