If you close your eyes in Victoria Square at lunchtime during the week and listen, you can almost imagine yourself standing in any square in the world. The lilting sinusoidal crescendo - decrescendo murmur of voices. Echoes of Central Market nearby. The humming pulse of traffic; engines and tyres in harmony and conflict, discord and agreement.

The South Australian sunlight, warm on your face. The smell of food, grilled meat in particular. I'm running out of ideas here, so I'll stop trying - it's meat on a stick.

Name almost any culture in which meat is a culinary component any you'll find their version of meat on a stick. Satay. Shish Kebab. Yakitori. Souvlaki. Espetada. Corn dogs. Patychky.

In Victoria Square you'll find a food truck named "Signor Arrosticini" selling Arrosticini, a traditional dish from Abruzzo, Italy. Small cubes of fresh South Australian lamb, seasoned and grilled over a specialised charcoal grill, served piping hot in a bag or with crusty slices of bread soaked in olive oil. Other accompaniments are on but the lamb is the highlight here.

They're not glazed with sauce and don't feel like they were marinated overnight in a concoction of spices, but they don't need to be.

Sizzling as they come off the fornacella grill, the arrosticini are juicy, flavourful, seasoned, bite sized meaty lamb goodness with a smoky charred taste from the charcoal grill. Deliciously satisfying. The taste is much like one would expect with the rich saltiness of the meat pairing well with the charcoal flavour, similar to [LINK=https://www.weekendnotes.com/gong-korean-charcoal-bbq-restaurant/]Gong Korean Charcoal Barbecue Restaurant.

A bag of 5 charcoal grilled arrosticini will set you back $9; adding the aforementioned olive oil soaked bread and pickled capsicum/eggplant salad costs an extra $2. 4x Arancini balls and 5x stuffed olives are $8 a side with fries for a fiver. The usual selection of soft drink is also on offer.

If you're in the city and looking for a quick meaty bite for lunch, Signor Arrosticini's lamb will surely satisfy.
