Art by the River Murray in Goolwa
Until my last visit to Goolwa, I had only ever visited this little town in a rush and just before 5 pm when most establishments close. So this time around my partner and I dedicated an entire day to exploring the town and we came across a pretty long list of great places to see. If you are heading to Goolwa, visit Signal Point; a mixture of café, art gallery, look out and function venue.
Located at The Wharf Precinct, Signal Point sits proud between the bridge to Hindmarsh Island, the water, and the Cockle Train Station. This contemporary warehouse style building offers a large art exhibition space, showcasing the talent of local and travelling artists, they also offer a number of workshops and regular events.
Local art display
Signal Point is a great space for those interested in art, but also for overseas tourists wanting to experience Australian art and to get a deep insight of Australian everyday life and scenery. You will find lots of pieces with their main subject being the ocean, cattle stations, horse riding and portraits of local people.
Explore the Australian life
After exploring the local art scene you might want to head just next door to their café and cellar door to indulge in some local produce. The Shaw Family Vintners Cellar Door offers 35 years of experience in wine making and some great wines from McLaren Vale and Currency Creek region (open 10am-5pm 7 days). For coffee and light meals you can go to Cafelicious and enjoy the stunning views of the Murray River and Hindmarsh Island (Open 7 days 9am-5pm).
