Now in its second year, Sidesault at The Melba seeks to challenge and push the boundaries of contemporary circus. Held over two action-packed weeks, the festival will feature thrilling circus works from six national and international companies. Each one-hour performance is distinct, unconventional and sure to have you on the edge of your seat!
Five fearless females are smashing stereotypes while smashing out tricks in BOSS SQUAD. We don't want a seesaw, we want to jump, fly and flip. This brand new ripper of a show calls out the cat callers, while embracing all things weird and acrobatically wonderful.
Move over, there's a new BOSS in town!
Wonderfully bizarre and undoubtedly hilarious, Laser Kiwi combines high-calibre circus with unforgettable physical comedy. If you enjoy lighting matches with your toes, zebra, or Japanese game shows, this show is for you! If you don't … they have other ideas too. This thoroughly entertaining masterpiece is so full to the brim with innovation, you'll never guess what's coming next!
My Sight - Their Sight challenges three highly trained artists to perform with and without their vision, exploring how the human body can move and interact when sight is compromised. This award-winning company uses dance and circus to explore trust and power shifts as they navigate a changing space.
Feed the Horse combines the surreal and visceral nature of circus with other artforms to create an immersive, deliberately confronting experience that will shock your senses. Drawing on ritualistic dance, Dadaism and butoh, this work explores how far the human form can be distorted, taking you on a journey to reconnect with your own primal subconscious.
Working titles that didn't stick: Live after love. Eat your heart out. You just need time. Sex sells. It's not you. Campsite Rules. Groping through to grieving; a (Jess) love story full of lust and loss. But award-winning circus virtuoso Jess Love decided on HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE.
Jugg Life is an explosive fusion of dynamic live percussion and relentless energy, showcasing the breathtaking skills of two of Australia's best jugglers. With a combined 30 years of performing experience, Byron Hutton and Richard Sullivan display precisely what they love about juggling in as many ways as possible, incorporating competition, danger, music and even a Rubik's Cube. Colourful, visual, turbulent and fun, this intense, non-stop escalation of skill and entertainment will delight the entire family.
