Israeli-style Meal You Want to Share
There's something about finding a fantastic cafe in the most unexpected location that makes it so satisfying. It might be to do with the fact that it feels like you've stumbled upon the local's secret jewels. SHUK is a little gem tucked away in an almost-residential area of North Bondi.
The cafe offers comfortable indoor sittings, sun-drenched outdoor spots and a garden oasis at the back. The menu boasts an incredible array of Israeli and Mediterranean delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The vision behind SHUK's owner, Yoni Kalfus, is to create modern Israeli meal using the freshest ingredients and a place for people to come together and connect.
SHUK has become a popular Cafe Deli Bakery spot on the Eastern Suburbs over the past year. To celebrate its success thus far, Kalfus hosted an intimate gathering to celebrate SHUK's first birthday on 20 November 2014.
My personal winner was the mini tuna sandwich which bursted with layers of flavour. The first thing I noticed was the herbed focaccia bread was so fresh, light and fluffy. Together with creamy tuna and egg salad it was just absolutely delicious and filling.
It was hard to beat the Israeli-style pastry parcel. They were served warm and the fillings were terribly flavoursome with Mediterranean spices. We delved into the delicious snack and I could not resist going for a second helping.
SHUK has no pretentiousness whatsoever and overall it provides a cosy cafe space space. I noticed SHUK also offers a variety of freshly-baked pastries and breads, so I will pop in for a takeaway pastry and coffee when I am next in Bondi.
