Every year South Australian families flock to the
Royal Adelaide Show , and for a lot of them, they just don't know why. Sometimes heading to the show can seem like just a huge waste of money, for others it is the highlight of the calendar year. So for anyone who has become a bit disillusioned with the show, we want to try and bring back a bit of the magic. So if you love the show, or at least one part of it, tell us what your favourite part is.
Showbags can either be the biggest attraction or biggest pet peeve at the show. Kids usually love them, and parents hate buying them. The truth is, most of the time, these bags are filled with a whole load of pointless rubbish that is just going to get left around the house or broken. This isn't the case for all show bags, and each year there are a few that stand out. Food show bags from the likes of Allens, Menz, or Cadbury can often be pretty good value, and they are also a bit of a treat if you usually refrain from the sweeter things in life. Sometimes you'll also find some good deals with Magazine show bags, gourmet food bags, or pet show bags. Surely they can't be all that bad.
If you've got any daredevils in your family, then you'll know that rides are a popular part of the show. While most years have the same rides, sometimes there are some fun new additions to the line up. Rides at the show are a little more expensive than they should be, but they are loads of fun. It can be best to check out all the rides first to work out prices and which ones you really want to go on. Try and work out if you want to ride multiple times before you head on one, because you can often save money by buying multiple tickets.
From pampered pooches to incredible livestocks, animals are a much loved, but sometimes overlooked, aspect of the show. While rides and show bags continue to get more expensive, the animals at the show remain a fun free activity. You can see the agility trials, watch the racing and diving pigs, or just get advice on any future pets. There are some really interesting animals out there, and some fun hands on activities for both adults and kids to partake in.
One of the last show attractions in the Sideshows. Filled with cheap toys, and dodgy odds, these can still be really fun. To make the most of your money, try going for sideshows with guaranteed wins, at least then you'll get something out of it. These can be really fun with a group of friends, because you can all compete to get the top prize. Play anything from fishing, basketball, shooting, or bowling, and test your aim, strength and skill. The prizes aren't always worth it, but the satisfaction of winning an oversized stuffed toy can't be beat.
A great way to end your day at the show, is to sit down and enjoy the end of the night fireworks. When you've had a busy hectic day this can be a good chance to sit down, but its also enjoyable. The kids will love watching the bright colours up in the sky, and it makes a great end to the evening.
So do you have a favourite part of the show that keeps you coming back year after year? As much as your feet ache and your pockets lighten by the end of the day, there is no denying that there is lots of fun to be had. So let us know which bits you love best, so people can start planning their timetable for the next year.
