Free photography exhibition celebrating Melbourne's streets

The 7th annual Shot in the Heart of Melbourne (SITHOM) exhibition returns to the Victorian Artists' Society in East Melbourne this July.

Proudly presented by the Australian Association of Street Photographers under the banner of SITHOM, this exciting exhibition brings together the stunning works of 30 passionate, amateur photographers, who explore the streets of the City of Melbourne in their own unique way.

A regular feature on Melbourne's photography exhibition calendar, SITHOM celebrates the decisive, and often indecisive, but always graceful moments that occur within our gritty, yet beautiful city.

"These photos are not just street style; they capture ephemeral moments - raw, unrehearsed and completely unique. Shot in the Heart of Melbourne is an artistic, candid homage to the people that bring this city to life each day".

Come and explore the clash of Victorian and modern architecture, a selection of the state's most recognisable attractions, our vibrant street art and public art scene and the ever-changing cultural landscape.

In recent times it has seemed that this time-honoured, traditional art form of Street Photography has been overshadowed by the flood of the more contemporary staged, set-up, composite, digitally manipulated and heavily processed genres of photography.

Those who love this genre of photography know the feeling of elation when they capture something truly unique, fleeting, decisive and graceful.
