Short Legged Dogs Unite! Poster on Henley Town Hall (Image: Andrew Baines)
Adelaide artist Andrew Baines is renown for his zany photo shoots and surreal imagery. From Dunny Day to Suits in the Sea, this madcap artist somehow manages to lure hundreds of people to pose in unusual settings at Henley Beach.
In another photo shoot Andrew Baines successfully rounded up the State Governor, Chief Justice, and a variety of members of Parliament and community leaders to get their feet wet in the surf at Henley Beach to celebrate the UN 70th Anniversary.
The latest project for this zany Adelaide artist is centred once again on Henley Beach, but with a doggedly different cast of canine players.
For his latest photo shoot Short Legged Dogs Unite! Andrew Baines is seeking 300 short legged dogs to join him in his caper. He prefer Dachshunds, but other short legged breeds including Pugs, Corgis & Bassett hounds will be accepted to bring up the numbers to his quota of sausage dogs. Hopefully the City of Charles Sturt will have a plentiful supply of doggy bags on hand!

The photo shoot takes place on Sunday October 9 at 9.30am at Henley Square. After the 300 dogs have assembled, hopefully they will stop howling long enough for people to be heard. The Dachshunds and their new friends will then be walked on leads through the Square and on to the beach by their owners who will be dressed in suits.
What happens from there is a mystery to me, but I'm sure that Andrew Baines will have some surreal imagery in mind for his photo shoot.
The Short Legged Dogs Unite! event is being held with the support of the City of Charles Sturt, who probably hope to pick up a few dollars in fines for any unregistered dogs. If you have any dog phobia, are allergic to Dachshunds, or are walk your cat on Sundays, it's recommended that you head elsewhere for the day.
To date, Andrew Baines has only got 151 sausage dogs, so if you have any of your own that you would like to bring along the Andrew would love to hear from you. To participate you should get in touch in advance: email Andrew at email@example.com or visit the City of Charles Sturt website to notify your interest.
In case you're wondering - the Short Legged Dogs Unite! event is actually a metaphor for the exclusiveness of minorities in our society.
Sounds like fun. We have a short legged dog, but she is more a hybrid of multiple dog breeds - Collie, corgi, shepherd and ? Doesn't fit the brief, but I will look forward to seeing the finished images.
