Do you have a child who is passionate about the environment, about sustainability and waste reduction? A child who treads lightly? If so, register here for free. Filmmaker Alex is making a short inspirational film , showcasing children who have local tips brought by local children on how to live more sustainably and tread lightly in Banyule. The event will be held on Sunday 13 February 2022 from 10am to 12pm AEDT at Rosanna Parklands Playground, 10 Ferrier Court, Rosanna.

If your child is camera shy or would like to remain anonymous, but still contribute, they can be filmed speaking with other footage on screen so their face isn't shown. Or they can come dressed in a costume that covers their face. Each child will be allocated 15 mins with Alex. The end result of the short film (around 3 mins long), will be shown on social media and on the Reimagine Banyule website , with the aim to inspire others to make a change towards living more sustainably.

Where the inspiration came from - Alex was inspired when he visited his cousin, whose daughter came up to him and proudly announced she had come up with an idea about how she could save trees by not using paper. She filled up a water bottle with water, made a homemade paintbrush using a twig with a pounded end to create bristles, attached it to the water bottle with an elastic band so it wouldn't get lost. She would write on the pavement or a bit of paper, and when it dried off, she'd start again. It got him wondering what other children are doing to live more sustainably. Alex believes we can learn so much from children and they way they connect, and their ability to think outside the box. They show us that we can all contribute a piece to the puzzle and make a difference.

TO PREPARE FOR THE DAY
To prepare for the day Alex asks the kids to think about answering the following questions -

  • What is something that you are passionate about/what are you personally doing to live more sustainably/tread lightly in Banyule?
  • What is the piece of the puzzle that you are contributing? Why is this important to you?
  • If you could reimagine what Banyule will look like in the future then what would it look like? Which animals would you see? What smells would you smell, What would you feel and hear?

  • See here for resources. The City of Banyule is very reactive and interactive when it comes to making our planet a better place to live in. Check out their Shaping Banyule website , the Council Website and the Facebook page to engage with and be inspired about living sustainably and to search out other sustainable events like REIMAGINING WASTE , at home or in the workplace. The event will be held for free on Sunday 13 Feb 2022 from 1-2pm at the Watsonia Neighbourhood House and you need to register . This event will also be FILMED BY ALEX and he is looking for volunteers who are happy to be interviewed. See more via the link.
