Short and Sweet

Home > Sydney >
The self described "biggest little play festival in the world" is the theatre world's version of the short film festival phenomenon.

I say hazzah to that, darn fine idea.

The Short and Sweet Festival features small chunks of theatre, each no more than 10 minutes long, written by Australian and international playwrights, and chosen from thousands of submissions.

Each year the plays are performed in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore and Malaysia. Some of the work pushes a few boundaries, so much so that a number of pieces were banned this year in the usually liberal Melbourne.

In Sydney the plays are performed at the Newtown Theatre, and the Seymour Centre.

The Top 100 sessions of 10 plays each are on until this weekend at both the Newtown Theatre and the Seymour Centre. There is one Wildcard session left this Saturday, 3pm, at the Seymour.

The final Gala showcasing the best work is on next weekend, Friday (20th) and Saturday (21st). Tickets are $35 to $40.

You can purchase all tickets from this webpage.

Why? You just know is going to be wild and whacky.
