5th Avenue in New York is one of the premier shopping destinations for New York residents and visitors alike. There are at least 50 to 75 stores on this famous boulevard, if not more, and each them offers something unique and different.

Some of the stores on 5th Avenue have been made famous in such TV shows as "Sex and the City" or have been featured or alluded to in TV shows and movies. In fact, you'll recognize a couple of Carrie Bradshaw's favorite haunts in the list below.

Saks Fifth Avenue

This store was mentioned a lot in the old "I Love Lucy" shows. Apparently, she and Ethel thought that making a purchase from Saks Fifth Avenue meant you were considered a member of high society. When you go into the store, you'll see why they though it was such an elegant place. It is very elegant, but don't be afraid to shop there. You can find bargains at any store. Even if you don't, you will still be able to say you shopped at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Jimmy Choo

Carrie and other New York women like to talk about their "Jimmy Choos". These are designer shoes that cost quite a bit but are worth every penny you pay for them. If it's at all possible, everyone should own a pair of Jimmy Choos at least once in her life.

Manolo Blahnik

Again, one of Carrie's favorite brands. In fact, when she got mugged in New York City, she made the mistake of mentioning she was wearing Manolo Blahniks. The mugger took them instead of her purse. Oh, well, at least he had good fashion sense. You'll enjoy just browsing through this high-end shoe emporium. Go ahead and try some on just for the fun of it. Then, you can truly say you've worn Manolo Blahnik shoes.

You know this brand is famous because it is one of the most popular ones to be "knocked off". If you buy a Coach purse anywhere else other than the Coach store, especially from a street vendor or a back-room retailer, you're probably getting a counterfeit item. It's better to just visit the store and get a genuine item. They come in all sizes and colors, so you should have no trouble finding one that suits you.

This is where you go for all your fur and leather purchases. The store specializes in clothing and shoes made of the finest leather as well as accessories to complement your outfits. These are just a few of the many stores on 5th Avenue. When you're finished shopping or browsing, you can truly say you've been to New York City.
