Who would have thought that, apart from the obvious benefits, spending money on yourself is good for you. I swear, I am not making this up for another excuse to hit the shops!

I think this is great news all round. It opens the flood gates for mega spending. It really got me thinking, so I started my own research on what women spend their money on.

I don't think it's surprising that 70% of all consumer spending in the US is by women . We spend about 8.5 years of our lives shopping, so it might as well be pleasurable.

I can't find Aussie figures, but suppose this would be similar to Australian results. The poor Aussie blokes needs time to relax on the weekends because they are so tired from their very important jobs and their favourite t-shirt from high school still hasn't got holes in it anyway.

Honestly, I took this research seriously. I was on a mission to find out about the top things women spend their money on. Personal care, health and fitness are on top of the list.
We spend up on love and on-line dating . I assume this is for single ladies mostly. Home furnishings was also high on women's shopping lists.

I figure that if it works so well for other women, the sisterhood can learn a shopping lesson and follow suit. Surely I need something from each category? Here's some hot tips so that everyone is happy: buy sexy lingerie , scented candles , have your hair done , check out the Brazillian sparkly accessories, book a massage , check out the new pillow top posturepedic and buy that jewellery or accessory you always wanted. I am starting to feel better already.

This is not big news but there's a big difference between what men and women spend their money on. Women spend way more on clothes and charity. For me, shoes must fit into this category. Men spend more on booze and food. Surprise, surprise! Thank god men are from Mars and women are from Venus.

The (almost) final words go to Tammy Faye Bakker 'I always say shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist.'

So we have an imperative to be selfless, spend up big on ourself and be a yummy mummy. Everyone is a winner - shopping can be truly orgasmic.
