Forty-five minutes and a world away from Metro Charlotte lies Shelby, NC. Shelby's population hovers around 20,000 souls. During the 1800s and 1900s, Shelby was primarily a "mill town". Area residents at the time-shifted from the independence of family farming to the mill worker environment. Working for the mills had economic advantages along with some disadvantages. Either way, the citizens of Shelby were, and are, a tight community of caring people who share values and pride of place. Yes, indeed. Shelby has a wealth of history to offer.

Shelby has much to offer, and the ideal place to lay your head is Morgan & Wells B B, just steps away from Uptown action. Spa services are also available on site. Parking is flat lot and adjacent.

The home itself is a rescue. Proprietors moved the structure from across the street, making room for a commercial project, and preserving local history. Lodgers are granted access to the entire property, including the beautiful living room, dining area, and expansive sitting porch. Mood music is unintrusively on play round-the-clock.

Where to begin to explore fascinating Shelby? Uptown is the logical place to begin. The historic district borders all around the commercial center of the city. Beginning at Don Gibson Theatre, explore to your heart's content. Be vigilant, taking notice of such inspiring features as the LP Project and the murals project, which features Don Gibson (at Miss Molly's) and Earl Scruggs (along the Newgrass Alley).

Entirely walkable, drop into the many shops around Uptown and discover treasures from days gone by, local artwork and crafts, wine, spirits and cigars. There's something for every preference and price point at your fingertips. Saturday morning's farmers market - again, right there in Uptown - is a local favorite.

As you wander back to the B&B for respite, notice the brightly painted yellow mansion just across the street. The Banker's House is the repository for important aspects of Shelby's history, including the city's legacy of political influence, state-wide. This home - owned exclusively by Shelby bankers - now serves as a testament to history and contemporary events space. Many of those influencers are memorialised in Sunset Cemetery, an island of quiet and favorite place to walk.

Have children along? A short drive to the park will amuse and entertain the kids. And, bring your sticks - there's a golf course in the park, as well.

You'll be amazed at the variety of experiences to be found in Shelby, NC - The Land of Rythm and Roots!
