The West Australian Quilters' Association is holding a 3 day "shop hop" from the 16th to the 18th of March to celebrate Worldwide Quilters' Day. A good way to explain a shop hop is it is kind of like a pub crawl but instead of going to bars you will go to craft shops and watch sewing machine demonstrations and do sewing activities and go to workshops about quilting. The shop hop is open to WAQA members and non-members. How is works is you purchase a "passport" to the shop hop at any WAQA event or meeting being held in February or March for $8 dollars. You can also purchase them from Handcrafters House in Midland or the Kraft Daze Sewing World in Maddington from 1st of March.

A passport lists all of the shops involved in the shop hop, their opening and closing hours, and any special deals or activities that they will be hosting. The shop hop is a self-guided tour. There is no bus and no time limit and no pre-determined plan of which shops to visit first. Grab some friends and plan your route. You can shop for just one day or all three it's up to you.

Please read your passports carefully when planning your route. Some shops are home-based or online and thus not usually open to the public. Other shops might only be open for 1 or 2 days of the shop hop. You will get your passport stamped at each shop. You can register for the Launch Event, Final Event or the "Make and Take" workshops that will be held at the Quirky Stitch. There are in-store raffles to participate in, demonstrations to watch, games, make and take activities and morning and afternoon tea will be held.

There will be 2 raffles that will be drawn during the Final Event which will be held in the afternoon of Saturday the 18th of March. The first raffle will be for those who register and the attend the Final Event which will be held at the Handcrafters House which is located at 7/401 Great Eastern Hwy in Midland.

How the second set of raffles works is like this: each shop you visit has a point value. To be in the running for the second round of raffles you need to collect a minimum of 8 points. The shops that are the furthest away from the centre of Perth are worth the most points and the shops that are closer to Perth are worth less. You can enter 3 categories of raffles depending on your number of points. If you want to win a prize you should hit the road and explore as many shops as you can.

There are some great prizes to be won. Some of the things on offer include new sewing machines, lots of gift certificates, panel quilt kits, and some brand new quilts. If quilt making is your thing you should get pretty excited about what the WA Quilters' Association is planning. It sounds like it's going to be a fun couple of days.
