Which vouchers are worth using?
From Facebook Shop A Docket

I admit I have used one of those cheap holidays on the back of a Shop A Docket. It was a three night escape to Lakes Entrance.

I really wish I could have escaped. It involved a motel on the main drag. It was noisy and with our son bunking in with us as well there was hardly room to swing a cat as they say.

The fact that the cat they refer to, means a cat o'nine tails seems more to the point. It seemed a gruelling and punishing short break.

But I will say it included a few meals and these were great. Plus a work colleague, who also used the same deal on another occasion, said that her family really enjoyed it.

"Where" she said "could you get a three night beach holiday, with accommodation and meals for $299."

So perhaps I just expected too much for too little.

But the experience did put me off glancing at the back of my supermarket dockets for some years after that.

But I have recently returned to the Land of Shop A Dockets with a lot more success.

I can't vouch for the hairdressers, car service ones or gym memberships because I generally only use them for eating out at places that I would go to in any case. So here is a few of those.

Oh, but before I move forward, the internet means that things have really changed. You are no longer restricted to using only those vouchers you find on the back of your supermarket docket.

These days you can simply go to the site and print off the ones you need.

Or even better, you can put them onto your smart phone so you don't have to even worry about fiddlly bits of paper.

Pancake Parlour

Basically you buy one short stack (2 pancakes with ice-cream or whipped butter) and you get a second serving for free. That equates to having breakfast out with someone or perhaps a late night splurge for around $6 a head.

If you want to "up" the healthiness of the fare then you can ask for buckwheat pancakes and the fact that the Pancake Parlour uses a lot of organic produce ticks a few of the right boxes.

Skinny Dog Hotel In Kew

I frequented the Skinny Dog Hotel in Kew long before I realised you could use a shop a docket there. The food is actually great and I am not the only one to rave about it. In fact it is so good that on many nights its completely booked out, so it pays to book in advance.

A lot of young people go and my son and his friends love it for what they consider the best parmas in town.

There is also a great beer garden, which apparently, (I haven't been there on a hot summer night), sprays an ever so fine mist of water over patrons.

The Shop A Docket allows you to get 25% off the overall bill (up to $35.) And the great thing is that they are talking about the food and drink bill here.

The Tower Hotel

The Tower Hotel is just one of the many pubs with deals that you will find on the Shop A Docket site. You will quickly find one in your region when your type your postcode into the search box.

I don't normally frequent this or any pub because I find pub meals becoming a little too expensive. But recently there was an extended family occasion and a large party of us ended up at this central location. To my surprise, when the bill came round, all the couples starting pulling out Shop A Dockets. It was really a huge saving, as for each full priced meal, the partner got their meal for half price. You can use up to three dockets per table.

Taco Bills

Okay, so there are a few better Mexican restaurants around Melbourne these days but a lot of people still have a soft spot for good old Taco Bills. Sometimes its just the kind of comfort food you need on a cold night and those iced lemon margaritas aren't bad in summer either. The voucher below is for Greensborough, but have a look on the site as there is likely to be one in your vicinity. Basically buy one meal and get one free. It really makes for a cheap night out.

So that is the lowdown on some of the Shop A Dockets I think are worth downloading. Which ones have your tried and what were your experiences?

* To avoid any disappointments always read the fine print on any dockets.
