Acting as a live-action homage to the aesthetics and style of paper-back crime novels of the 1940s, Shoot From the Hip will bring its edgy story to the Courthouse Hotel of North Melbourne.
As part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, this is a classic film noir detective story. Featuring the obligatory femme fatale and private dick, 1940s fashions, a jazz-inspired soundtrack and a atmospheric speakeasy (named the Jury Room), this is a tale straight out of the violence, lust and crime of one of Australia's largest private collection of paper-back covers.
Fast paced dialogue and
Sam Spade-like narration, takes the audience to a bygone era straight out of the covers of some famous (and other forgettable) detective fiction titles. Director Jeremy Rice takes the corpse and detective riddled covers of pulp fiction and turns them into an original story of wisecracks, gunshots, high-stakes and low-cut dresses.
Shoot From the Hip will be showing at the Courthouse Hotel on Errol Street in North Melbourne, running from the 16th of September through until the 25th of September. Visit the Melbourne Fringe website
