Shomen Ramen

The sister restaurant to Shobosho on Leigh Street, Shomen is a hole-in-the-wall eatery that primarily specialises in ramen dishes. Aside from ramen, Shomen also offers soba noodles, burgers, Korean Fried Chicken and tea-smoked duck with rice.
Their Mushroom Ramen makes use of a chickpea miso broth which gave the dish a delectable savoury flavour with the egg noodles cooked al dente. The enoki mushrooms in the dish notably still had a bit of bite to them, providing a change of texture from the softer shiitake mushrooms. Completing the dish was a soy egg and fried onions for a bit of crunch.
One of the non-noodle dishes that can be ordered, the Wagyu patty in the Shomen Wagyu Cheeseburger was juicy with a good char. Char Siu bacon added a distinct sweet-savoury flavour to the dish and freshness was provided by the kizami wasabi relish. The tea pickle mayonnaise tied everything together. We chose to have the cheese on the side so we can add as much as we wanted to the burger.
The open-air seating gave the place a feel that is different from the norm, with the tables having umbrellas to give diners some protection from the elements. If you are looking for a casual place to enjoy ramen at Leigh Street consider giving Shomen a try.
