Have you ever consumed a copious amount of alcohol and tried to navigate yourself through an old English play? No? Have you wanted to see what that's like? Yes? Well, then do I have a treat for you. Magnificent Bastard Productions presents Shit-Faced Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet. An honest to goodness ridiculous production, where one of five very talented theatre actors is very much over-the-top drunk. What ensues is a classic play with a twist. Imagine fine Shakespearean theatre where everything went wrong and it's still hilarious all the while.

The premise of Shit-Faced Shakespeare is a unique one. What happens when one of your well-trained performers isn't so well behaved. How they achieve this is before the show one of the actors is chosen to drink lots and lots of alcohol. To the point that they don't remember lines or want to cooperate with the play. The other four actors then have to work around their belligerent friend and stop a Shakespeare play from falling apart or go with the flow and see where the adventure takes them. Two members of the crowd are given a gong and a trumpet to sound off (one use only) if they believe our inebriated actor is sobering up at which point he or she will be provided another drink. The MC of the show will also be off to one side to moderate things if our sloshed performer gets a bit out of control.

What comes from this is a masterful and comical rendition of a Shakespearean classic. It meshes classical theatre with modern improv as the actors try their best to work with and around their colleague. Dialogue will go askew and the whole plot of the play will change directions as our wasted entertainer takes the wheel and drives the show off a cliff. It's hilarious, unpredictable and a straight-up riot. With a different performer taking on the task of the drunkard each night no two shows are ever the same and you never know what you are going to get but you know it's going to be fantastic.

Shit-faced Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet will be performing in Gluttony every night until the end of the Fringe on March 18th. Keep an eye out for more unhinged shows and events by Magnificent Bastard Productions as they tour the country with their untamed hi-jinks.

This is an insane, off-the-wall show, which is worth a look for any theatre-goer or anyone who likes a stiff drink.
