If you aren't one to blush easily, then you must see Shirley Gnome's comedy sensation 'Taking it Up the Notch' at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Her vocal talent and stage presence was mesmerising, so much so it makes the force her lyrics all the more a slap in the face to pearl-clutchers everywhere.
Having just been signed with Canada's biggest independent record label Shirley was anything but modest in her lyrics, opening her show by serenading us with 'You Can Shove Anything Up Your Vagina' and ending it with more wigs on her body then she has places to put them. Needless to say, this is not one for the kids.
With her incredible oratory performance Shirley effortlessly marries comedy and music, creating an hour of gasping either for air between laughter or in complete shock at what you are hearing. Like the beloved drunk aunt at Christmas, you can't help but listen in awe as she takes you on a hilarious journey of extremes.
Twice nominated for the Best Comedy Award, Shirley Gnome really does take comedy to the next level in 'Taking it Up the Notch'. She drags you to the edge of decency and trips you off the cliff before you realise what's happening, and I could not have enjoyed the experience more. Make sure you get in to see Shirley Gnome- 'Talking it Up the Notch' before it ends, you're in for a treat.
