My friend had invited me to a women's only mixed martial arts fitness class. So, after a few words of mutual encouragement, we decided to go along and see what it was all about.
The classes are held on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 7am - 8am at 18 Endeavour Road, Kunda Park. You can get more information from Mitch, the trainer, on 0406 915 855 or through the Facebook page, just search Women's Mixed Martial Arts Fitness.
Now, I haven't worked out for a while so I was terrified that I would throw up from the exertion. But, I didn't. Mitch was very patient and encouraged us to go at our own pace. There was a mixture of cardio (which my sister loved) and self-defence instruction (which I loved).
My only warning would be that there is a lot of physical contact, so keep that in mind if you are adverse to touching others. Otherwise, you will learn boxing techniques, take-down manoeuvres and how to kick and knee. All while toning your body and increasing your cardio fitness.
We really had a great time. It is also a great opportunity to make new friends and get fit together.
The cost runs on a monthly basis. There will be eight training sessions in a month and for that you pay $90. As class sizes increase more class times will be offered.
It is now two days since my first class and while I can't sit, walk or sneeze without hurting, I can't wait for the next one.
