Craving for some korean?
The newly opened Shinaburo Korean Restaurant is located in the picturesque lakeside town of Wanaka, just two hours drive from Queenstown.
My sister and I decided to give Shinaburo a try one afternoon for lunch. You can easily spot Shinaburo from the street due to its attractive and eye catching signage. We were warmly welcomed by the lady host, and made to feel much at home. Much effort has been made to make Shinaburo more than just a korean eating joint. On every table, there is a laminated postcard of Korea, along with little bits of interesting information about the Korean culture on the back. The lady host is also very enthusiastic about sharing the Korean culture.
We decided to go for their lunch bento and a Seafood korean pancake. The lunch bento comes with Deep fried chicken, with their homemade spicy mayo sauce, a choice of either chicken, pork or beef stir fry, rice and miso soup. And of course this meal cannot be completed without kimchi and various other Korean side dishes. The seafood korean pancake was a surprise as it came with kimchi in it as well. Most Korean restaurants do either seafood or kimchi pancake so it was great to have both in one pancake. Their kimchi is also handmade by the lady host and it has just the right flavour and taste. Lastly, the meal is finished with a complimentary cup of traditional cinnamon ginger tea.
