A family favourite

This is one of those little places that some people love and some people hate. I am definitely on the side of love, but can see why some people are not fans.

Why I love it.

I suppose I love it primarily because it is very family focused. It's in a great location next to a park (which you can eat in Al Fresco if you want), and just a few houses from the beach, which makes it a winner for grabbing a quick bite then back to the sand castles.

The décor is really quirky too, with a vintage truck in the middle that you can sit at for your meal if you like, as well as comfortable mixed furnishings that are very shabby chic (well, maybe just shabby in some cases, but very comfortable). There is also a table on the roof that is a favourite with the kids. No one has yet met the challenge of eating there, although the kids do tend to find their own table to set up at, which the parents are not invited to.

The inclusion of a kids play area is also great, and should be more common in these types of cafe, especially since one of the negatives can be an extended wait for your meal. If you are not in a rush though, the kids area will keep the little ones very entertained while you wait.

Only problem is getting them to come back and eat.

The food, once it comes, is simple but genuine. I have not tried the fancier sounding options as I am not convinced id like them on seeing other diners eating them, but the burgers and all day breakfast menu are well cooked, filling and tasty café food.

Big and basic, but tasty

On the negative side the service can be very slow, so if you are in a rush this is not the place for you. While the basic food is generally good I have seen and heard that the more ambitious dishes are not great. I'm also not a fan of the fish as there are far better fish and chip shops in the area.

This café also has a reputation locally that the staff are not great at handling complaints and can be quite rude, but the one time they got our order wrong I found the waitress very accommodating and apologetic. I tend to think that a lot of the comments on rude staff come from people who complain with all guns blazing. If you are polite to them and explain the problem I found them very good.

The last issue which I do agree with is the price. Their prices went up quite a lot recently and while they are still fairly reasonable I could no longer call them a bargain. This is probably due to a long period with no increases, but it's still a bit of a let down when it comes all at once.

Overall we love the place for a casual weekend lunch or breakfast, and as long as you avoid the really busy periods and are not in a rush the slowish service is no problem. When you are in a comfy seat, the kids are happy playing and you are having a nice chat with sea breezes, I find it hard to worry much about anything.
