I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami and Pokémon

My mum is the holiday planner in our family. Her biggest headache is always accommodation. A lot of places do not live up to expectations built up by their websites. We hit the jackpot with Shiba Park Hotel for our Tokyo trip. Shiba Park Hotel is located in the Minato area of Tokyo, just ten minutes walk from one of Tokyo's most recognizable landmarks, Tokyo Tower.

Most of the hotels offer promotion packages which require payment upfront and have a no cancellation policy. Shiba Park Hotel had a 'Stay 4 Nights, Save 40%' package with payment to be made only on departure and cancellation is allowed up to 48 hours prior to arrival. If cancellation is made less than 48 hours prior to arrival or in case of no-show, one night-stay per room is chargeable.

Shiba Park Hotel is located within walking distance from a JR (Japan Rail) station and two subway stations, making it an ideal base for exploring Tokyo. Their website is very informative, with details of how to get to the hotel from the airports as well as a list of places to visit (and how to get there from the hotel) in Tokyo.

One of the difficulties of touring Tokyo on your own is the language barrier. Most of the locals do not speak English. When navigating around Tokyo, the only sure place to find an English speaking person is at the hotels. Shiba Park Hotel staff speak excellent English and are very helpful. Each morning, we showed the staff our itinerary for the day and they provided us with maps and instructions on how to get to those places. Their service started even before our arrival. We dropped them a few queries via email and were pleasantly surprised at the quick response.

The rooms are a decent size and the televisions have a few English channels. Free wifi is a big bonus because we were able to fine tune our itineraries and keep in contact with family and friends. Food is not a problem because supermarkets, restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance from the hotel.

Kids will love the reception area because there is an assortment of Japanese lollies for their enjoyment.
