Home made jams, pickles and preserves.

There's something completely beguiling about handmade, freshly grown, and home-cooked goods. Who among us hasn't relished every last drop of nan's homemade relish, slathered swathes of our sister's strawberry jam on a home-baked scone, or been comforted by the warmth and weight of a crochet blanket? Maybe it's because we can feel the love in a hand-hewn wooden toy that it seems somehow more worthy of becoming an heirloom than anything in the pile of moulded plastic playthings. Perhaps it's the promise of what the future holds for a sapling that's been grown from a seed, that makes it seem so special.

If you're among the many who like to feel the love in the things you buy, the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Craft Market is the treasure trove you've been seeking. Here you will find unique gifts, crafts, and more, all made, sourced and grown by humans. Best of all, you're likely to be buying from the very humans who brewed, crafted, or grew the thing you're buying. As we all know, when we shop locally, the money boosts our local economy.

The range of handmade goods on offer is ever changing.

The Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Craft Market occur on the first Sunday of every month. While there are some regular stallholders, every month you'll find new ones coming and going.

Community Sector Support Officer at Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre, Matthew Wilding-Wykes tells us, "There's quite a mixture of things really, there's a lot of arts and craft items but it sort of varies each month as well. We do have a few regular people… but we do have a wood maker sometimes as well," adding later, "oh and we do sometimes have somebody selling plants as well."

Perhaps handmade pottery is more your thing?

That means there's always something new to discover among the stalls at Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Craft Market. You'll find the market set up outside the Corinda Library from 8am until noon, so it's good for you early birds out there. As it's outside, your well-behaved pooches are welcome to come along too. Just make sure you keep them on a leash.

Parking near the market is easy - you should be able to nab a street park within a short walk of the site. If you prefer to use public transport, Corinda train station is a three-minute walk from the market. Just remember the Sunday timetable might differ to that of a weekday.

About the Market Organisers

The Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Inc. is a wonderful local support group created by the community, for the community. They help people with emergency relief, so they've been very busy since the floods.

Matthew says, "At the moment we have the recovery team for the floods here until the end of the week. In a regular sort of week, we have quite a few things going on, so we have quite a few social groups and this could be anything from hobby groups to craft." The centre also assists people with emergency housing, food, and other support. Help is offered in a non-judgemental and caring environment.

So this is one market that really gives back to the community. Perhaps if you're not keen to shop, you might like to set up a stall at the monthly market instead. There are niches that need to be filled at the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Craft Market.

"Unfortunately, there's no food vendors at the moment," Matthew reveals. He also tells us the stallholder rates are very reasonable. So enterprising coffee carts or food trucks (or any other interested stallholder) should get in touch with Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Inc. on 07 3379 6963 or by emailing
