Sherpa is a breathtaking and stunningly beautiful documentary. It chronicles the history of the Sherpa's fight for respect and fair rights against the Western tourists who want to climb the sacred mountain of Everest.

Tension starts in 2013, when an ugly brawl occurs between some European climbers and an angry group of Sherpas. Then tragedy strikes a year later in the middle of the climbing season with a devastating avalanche.

I was surprised to learn what the Sherpa's work entails. They work 'behind the scenes'- cooking, setting up camp, putting ropes and ladders in place and carry heavy loads up and down the mountain.

The filmmakers set out to make a film about the 2014 climbing season from the perspective of the Sherpas, but they end up capturing a pivotal moment in the history of climbing Mount Everest.

On the 18th of April 2014 a huge 14 million ton block of ice crashes down through the most dangerous part of the climbing route, Khumbu Icefall. It tragically killed sixteen Sherpas. These native people unite in grief and anger to reclaim the mountain they call Chomolungma.

The Sherpa website has a list of the cinemas where the film is showing.
