Just 15 minutes south of Coolangatta is this very cool gallery and cafe. Under the shade of a sheoak tree, with views of the beautiful Tweed River, this is the perfect spot for a very relaxed meal, drink or a leisurely browse. Initially opened as a gallery in 1999, the Sheoak Shack is now known as a gallery, cafe, function centre, licensed bar, outdoor cinema and a venue for live music.
The gallery showcases artwork by local and emerging artists and specializes in indigenous and coastal art. A fabulous menu makes it hard to decide what to order from the cafe and being able to sip a cool beverage from the licensed bar is the icing on the cake. The food is delicious, the service is good and the staff are friendly. Various styles of seating are scattered around the cafe, all of them perfect for a chilled out visit. If, in fact, you find it just too hard to leave, watching the sun go down with a cocktail in your hand is a pretty cool way to end your day!
The vibe here is funky and relaxed, with an undeniable beachy feel. Good music, a breeze off the river and a view of the water all make it hard to get up and leave! On Saturday nights the Sheoak Shack steps up the pace, opening for dinner and becoming a venue for live music. If you're planning to have dinner here, you'll need to make a booking as Saturday nights here are very popular. During the colder winter months the Sheoak Shack closes at 5pm on Saturdays.
There are several good reasons to visit Fingal Head and this is definitely one of them! Spend some time discovering this picturesque part of the coast, drop in to the Sheoak Shack Gallery Cafe and just soak up the coastal vibe at this unique spot!
