Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal
The Salvation Army and Karrinyup Shopping Centre are calling on the people of Perth to donate a piece of warm or wooly clothing. This is part of the annual Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal, running from 6th June to 2nd July. Have you an old jacket or coat just hanging in the wardrobe? Why not donate it?

The Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal will support the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal and deliver real, tangible assistance to some of Perth's most disadvantaged. The donated items will assist individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties, unemployment and homelessness in Western Australia.

People are entrenched in poverty across Australia, and suffer more than ever in the winter months.

The biggest challenges Western Australian respondents of the survey faced on a daily basis were:

Being able to afford enough food to eat (69%)
Managing financial stress and difficulties (41%)
Managing their mental health and emotional wellbeing (46%)
Finding and maintaining suitable accommodation (27%)

Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal is a call-out to the Perth community to donate coats, jackets, jumpers, baby and children's clothing, new blankets or doonas for individuals and families less fortunate.

By simply donating one warm item to the Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal, you will be making a big difference to those in desperate need during the winter months. Our previous appeals have been a great success and this year we're hoping to make it the biggest one yet. We're aiming to raise over 3,000 articles of warm clothing, as well as $4,000 in donations for The Salvation Army," concluded Ms Claire Ridley for Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

All donated warm clothing and blankets must be in good condition, laundered and clean. The collection bin will be located at Karrinyup Shopping Centre in the Centre Court - open from 10am to 5pm daily, Monday to Saturday, closes 7pm on Thursday and opens from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday.

The first 20 people to donate an item each day will receive a free coffee voucher, redeemable at selected café outlets in the Centre.

The Salvation Army volunteers will be selflessly giving up their time to collect donated items. Additional volunteers with two hours to spare, are being sought by The Salvation Army.
