The movie, Chicken Run, is mildly absurd and very funny. The film, released in 2000, focuses on a group of chickens headed by the fearless Ginger and helped - or not - by Rocky the famous flying rooster. They make repeated, daring attempts to escape their enclosure on the chicken farm and fly to green, idyllic pastures before they're all turned into chicken pies. Despite its grisly overtones, it's a thoroughly enjoyable family movie and one that kids of all ages, love.

What makes this movie even more lovable, is watching that movie within the walls of an actual prison. Which is exactly what we did when I took my family to enjoy a night at Boggo Rd Gaol.
Movie events are held at Boggo Road Gaol regularly, so jump on their Facebook page to be notified of upcoming events. Some are family friendly, others less so. Keep an eye out for such great prison films as Shawshank Redemption or Brubaker.
The next event will be for 15 years and upwards and will show The Green Mile. It will be held on Saturday November 11th with the tour starting at 5pm and the movie finishing around 10.30pm. Bring a picnic dinner or grab a bit to eat from the food vans outside.
