Shaw and Smith Winery is located in Balhannah, just over 30 minutes' drive from the centre of Adelaide. Boasting one of the best Sauvignon Blancs in South Australia, any Adelaide Hills wine tour would be incomplete without a visit.
Along with their bestselling Sav Blanc, Shaw and Smith's other
specialties are their single vineyard Chardonnay, cool climate Shiraz, and their fast-selling Pinot Noir. You can try all four by purchasing a 'Wine Flight' tasting for $15 per person which includes a delicious cheese sampler.
Built in 1999, the Shaw and Smith tasting room is both modern and stylish. The beautifully simple architecture features floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing for incredible views of the vineyard and four hectare dam below.
On a warm Saturday afternoon we were pleased to find there were plenty of tables available both inside and out. The winery caters for walk in groups of up of up to six people, whilst groups of more than six will need to book in advance.
The smart design allows you to enjoy the views all year round.
[ADVERT]I found the wine prices to be quite reasonable, ranging from $25 - $45 a bottle. The award-winning winery also produces an exceptional second label fittingly named 'Incognito', which is priced at up to $26 less per bottle than the main label equivalent. Despite playing second fiddle to the core range, it is obvious these wines are made with the same care and expertise and are sure to impress.
If you sign up to become a Wine Club Member (registration is free) you will receive 10% off all wine purchases both on-site and online. Better yet, if you purchase a half dozen or more bottles you receive one 'Tasting Flight' for free.
The Shaw and Smith Tasting Room is open from 11am to 5pm daily, including public holidays, and is located at 136 Jones Road, Balhannah.
