Shanghai Stories 1938 is nestled on Chatswood's newest entertainment precinct. The restaurant has two levels, which offers a variety of dining spaces. Additionally, there are outdoor tables, which would be the best spot on a sunny day.
As Shanghai China was a flourishing city in the 1930's, the restaurant aims to bring back the charm of the bygone era, while introducing modern elegance in setting.
It didn't take me long before I was ushered to a table during a recent visit, even though it's busy at lunch time on a weekend.
Once I settled myself in the seat, I was attracted to the old style ceiling fan. The tea was served in a lovely tea pot. As this was my first visit to this restaurant, it took me a bit of time to examine the menu. The restaurant indeed offers
a great lunch menu , especially for those who love yum cha. Not only that you can enjoy Shanghai-style dim sum at lunch time, but also a selection of popular classic Hong Kong dim sim, including crystal prawn dumpling, steamed BBQ pork bums, steamed pork ribs, egg tarts and more. This has created a point of difference compared with other restaurants - you can get the best of both worlds!
I ordered the Shanghai-style dumplings and soup, including sticky rice dumpling, vegetarian dumpling and diced fish soup. The dishes weren't served quickly but it was worth the wait as the food was delicious and fresh.
When I finished my meal, I was curious about how the upper floor looked like. Walking up to the second floor, I found that the stairway was interestingly decorated with piles of red circles. It's a pleasant surprise to me. Happy dining.
