The staff at Shanghai Dragon Dumpling House is very obliging. It's a small venue but they accommodated us away from the door because we were cold. The interior may not be appealing but a thermos of hot Chinese tea was provided with the menus and it was very gratefully received.
Pan-fried chicken dumplings as fresh as you can get
They must be used to the lunchtime trade because when I said we were in a hurry they looked unphased and delivered the pork noodles with green vegetables in 5 minutes and then produced the delicious Pan-fried dumplings in 10 minutes.
I had a craving for dumplings and you can't get them much fresher. You can watch their team of dumpling makers shaping and filling the dough while you wait. They work with skill, precision and patience. My son was very interested and impressed. Later he was convinced he saw them make the ones we were eating.
We had more than enough food for two of us and some leftovers to take away. Our meals were very affordable, they only cost $19 for both dishes and this included ten dumplings. This is about $2-$3 cheaper than most plates of dumplings around this area. They reminded me how much I love dumplings!
Shanghai Dragon Dumpling House provides three different sauces to choose your own flavours and heat. But be warned - don't be too heavy-handed - the chilli sauce is very hot.
The Shanghai Dragon Dumpling House has a photograph menu, which makes it easier to choose but also more tempting. It's a small cafe seating only about thirty people and can be very busy. Takeaway is available, it's BYOW and vegetarian-friendly.
If this cafe is full, just nick up the road to Ta-Ta House for tasty dumplings and an extensive Chinese menu. They also have the makers working on display and the freshest stirfried vegetable dishes. If you're willing to travel a little bit further and like Chicken and pineapple rice, drop in at 'I love dumplings' …. I really do!
