Imagine yourself in an Arabian bazaar, Arabic drumming and music, vibrant folkloric dancers, enchanted singing, henna tattoos and delicious Middle Eastern food. Perhaps you are in the Middle East or you've found your way to the Shansheel Iraqi Cultural Festival right here in Sydney.
Mark the very special date of Sunday 18 November in your calendar. At Casula Powerhouse , Shansheel Iraqui Cultural Festival will be taking place.

This is an incredibly rich and diverse event starting in the afternoon with keynote speaker Dr. Munjed Al Muderis speaking of his experiences both as a refugee and now one of Australia's top orthopaedic surgeons. Go speaker-page.png here to learn more about the event and Dr. Al Muderis.

From 2pm, get ready to experience the Page.png Baazar of Baghdad an interactive folkloric show of diverse Iraqi music, singing and dance. There will be a true bazaar feel with live Arabic calligraphy, food and tea stalls, henna tattoos, and traditional jewellery.

The grand culmination of the Iraqi Cultural Festival is a concert of quality classical Arabic music that celebrates the music of Iraq and its connection to the Arab World. The concert features local Sydney singers, accompanied by MACAM Music Ensemble and Amasi Singing Group.

The repertoire includes music pieces by renowned Arab composers, folkloric songs and exciting new compositions that unfold the stories of immigrants in a foreign land. The magnificent repertoire will give the audience the opportunity to taste the delights of a wide range of Middle Eastern tunes.

Zeina Issa, one of the organisers of the festival from MACAM Group, had this to say, "Music transcends cultural differences whilst cherishing traditions and a unique identity." This will be a very special concert and an opportunity to sample the unique music of Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula. Go here to get your tickets today, this popular show will sell out.

Make sure you get there early, so you do not miss out on the festival's other activities. Go here for a full list of all events happening on the day.
