South African Golden Oldie Rugby (Shamboks) are hosting its annual Carnival this Sunday 20th August 2017 again in Swanview. They are taking on Western Australia in true senior style and to celebrate the spirit of this great game with other golden oldie teams.
Shamboks is a rugby team for the over 35's and is multi-cultural consisting mainly of ex-South Africans and Zimbabweans, however there is a number of Australians, New Zealanders and English players too. The team first got together in 1989 when the Golden Oldies tournament came to Perth.
Shamboks have since played at every Golden Oldies Rugby Festival, taken part in the World Vintage Rugby Carnival that was hosted in Perth and participate in the local league.
What's different about the Shamboks is that they are the only other club who have permission from the South African Rugby Union to use the Springbok as the team logo and have incorporated it into a map of Australia.
If you are a South African supporter or a supporter of all teams except South Africa, then head down to Browns Park on 20 August 2017, to offer some local support.
What to Expect on the Day?
With a canteen onsite, spectators can purchase drinks and food while watching the teams play and also take on the Shamboks. Of course, if you would like to dust off your boots and join in the action, just contact the Shamboks so they can go over events on the day.
What time will the event start?
The events starts at 1 pm to about 4 pm. There will be a raffles and activities. Entry is free and there is ample parking.
Don't forget to bring a chair, or a cushion, to sit on. It is also a good idea to bring a warm jacket and umbrella for Winter's unexpected surprises
