Many book lovers will know Mike and Becky Lucas, owners of Shakespeare's Book Shop in the shopping centre at Shop 1, 10 Coromandel Parade in Blackwood, where parking is free and easy to access.

Some book lovers will know Mike for his numerous children's books of poetry and nonsense, which are popular with children, especially when he performs them during his fun workshops. Recently Mike and Becky organised the Adelaide Festival of Children's Books which was held at Carrick Hill and at Flinders University. This festival was a family event where children could meet several authors and illustrators of children's books. The majority of authors and illustrators were South Australian, but several other well known authors and illustrators from interstate participated in activities too.

This bookshop with its colourful presentation offers easy to explore bookshelves where there are volumes of books covering every genre you would imagine a bookshop to have, whether it be children's books, fiction and non-fiction, Biographies, Sport, Self-improvemment, Cinema, Poetry, Gardening, Health and Well Being.

In a family friendly atmosphere you can search the shelves of many books, and if you are unable to find the book you are looking for, they will find it for you.

I was particularly attracted to the number of books for all ages by well known Australian writers. Many of them being local writers and illustrators who participated in the very popular and successful Adelaide Festival of Children's Books 2017.

There is a fascinating selection of children's books, toys and a 'kids' area' where they can amuse themselves meeting a couple of cuddly characters in a corner who are bound to be popular with young children. While over behind the counter stands a Stormtrooper at your service.

You have the opportunity to discover a wide range of books including novels, and graphic novels as well as poetry for various ages. Some books offer exercises where children may write their own poems in interactive exercises or complete other fun activities that have proven to be educational as well.

Incidentally, if they don't happen to have the book you require on the shelf, they are quite happy to acquire it for you; even the hard to obtain books from overseas. They also offer gift vouchers that you can use at the store.

In conjunction with Mitcham Library, Shakespeare's Book Shop is conducting the Behind the Scenes literary event of an Antartic Expedition with Adelaide author of nearly 50 books, Dr. Sean Williams as he talks about his nine days in the frozen world researching material for his alternative history novel based on a heroic exploration in the Antartic. This event is being held at the Tower Arts Centre on Wednesday, 25 October at 6.30 pm. Bookings essential at Mitcham Library on 8372 8244.

At Burnside Library you can hear authors Richard Fidler and Kari Gislason discuss their new book, Saga Land. This gripping blend of family mystery, contemporary stories and the bloody, yet beautiful Viking tales are set against the stunning landscape of Iceland. Due to this being another very popular event bookings are essential.
Phone Burnside Libary at 8366 4280 to avoid disappointment.

What is clearly evident in this family owned bookshop is the friendly atmosphere and the pride and effort Mike and Becky take in ensuring their customers are properly looked after and receive the service that will bring them back time and again.
