There are not many places to hide with a minimal stage, set in a small intimate seating space. You're in the line of 007 fire, up close and personal. Shaken: A James Bond Cabaret at Chapel off Chapel is on for a couple more nights only till 23 June 2018, playing daily at 7.30pm. Book HERE and arrive 15 mins prior to start of this 60 min performance with no interval, as there's a strict 'Lockout Policy' and latecomers will not be permitted. If you choose to exit during the performance, you will not be permitted to re-enter.
Written and directed by Green Room Award nominee and WA Academy of Performing Arts alumni Charlie D. Barkle, it features Erin Jay Hutchinson, an actor and singer, all the way from Perth. Erin is also in another show during the Melbourne Cabaret Festival.
With James Bond, adventure and heroic situations in mind, you'd be forgiven if you've forgotten that this event includes James Bond hits sung by the greatest, presented by your very own Charlie D Barkle and Erin Hutchinson, whom have got their harmonising down pat. Erin is a professional at lifting the harmonies and imbuing it with light and shade.
Sadly the onscreen images are not as contrasting, as it rolls through 50 years of James Bond iconography. The classroom style delivery of 007 trivia does not leave much room for audience participation, as you sit through bullets of dialogue and cheesy moments. Not for everyone perhaps but then again, it could be right up your alley.
