Shadow's Light a free event hosted by TYC and Multicultural Arts Victoria , draws on tradition Javanese trance practices from the Royal Court of Central Java - Scrimpi and the unharnessed ecstatic trance practices of East Java - Bentengan/Bull-Trance; a blending of disciplines that include contemporary dance and improvised music.
Mesmerising and without compromise, it's a deep meditation on basic elements of living, quietude alongside the ecstatic, and you can catch it on Friday 7 Dec (8-9.30pm) and Sat 8 Dec (2-5pm) 2018 at the Testing Grounds, 1 City Rd, Southbank. On the Saturday, stay a while or come for the whole afternoon of Shadow's Light - Light Works as short solo and group works by local and international artists occupy spaces within Testing Grounds, falling in with Shadow's Light theme of light works.

On Sunday 9 Dec 2018 from 1-5pm, you have the rare opportunity to work with Trance leading practitioners in a Javanese Trance Workshop. You'll be introduced to the basic levels of internal focuses and states of trance in relation to kinesthetics and movements. Dancers, actors, musicians and anyone interested in trance-in-performance are welcome to participate.
