This summer, you can enjoy a selection of outdoor twilight movies with The Shadow Electric, the picturesque outdoor bar and venue at the Abbotsford Convent. Nestled in between Studley Park and the city and surrounded by walking paths along the Yarra, the Abbotsford Convent is a delightful escape from the city that could almost have you believing you're in a quaint bush town rather than inner Melbourne.
Films shown include a mix of new and recent releases such as What We Do in the Shadows, Magic in the Moonlight, Interstellar, Boyhood, and Predestination (which actually had some scenes shot on the grounds of the Abbotsford Convent), along with some classics including The Big Lebowski, Scream, and When Harry Met Sally. Check out the full program here. Some of the movies are a bit obscure or of limited appeal so I recommend checking out the program first and booking in advance for the more popular screenings.
The Abbotsford Convent's proximity to the city make getting there quite easy. It is a short walk from Victoria Park train station, or the 109, 24 or 42 tram (get off at either Nicholson St, Abbotsford or Lennox St, Richmond depending on which tram you catch) and you can also walk or ride along the Capital City walking path which connects to the Convent. For those driving, there is a car park situated opposite on St Helier's Street with all day parking available for $6 and also limited street parking available.
