A café opposite a dog park? Is this a dream come true? Along with my pooch, I decided to drive across the Brisbane freeway (something I rarely do) to try the newly re-furbished and re-named Seven South cafe at Yeronga. And I'm so glad that I did. I sat in the outdoor area at the front of the café, which is half-shaded with an awning and has extra café umbrellas for extra comfort. Luckily we booked because there was a line of at least 10 people waiting for a table. The inside area is light, fresh and modern with a lot of natural features.
My breakfast of fluffy scrambled eggs, sour dough bread and homemade relish was amazing. It was a standard dish done wonderfully. My friends had the sweeter option of ricotta pancakes with blueberries and, yes, I was envious and have vowed to have these next time. We finished our meal with the Brisbane-based Dramanti coffee, which I could tell was made with care.
Owners Kylie and Gavin Bartholomew are friendly and focussed on making sure every customer has the best possible dining experience. All staff wore khaki, Masterchef style aprons which was a nice touch. Seven South is also open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Street parking is available which makes for easy access. And of course, after I finished my meal we high-tailed across the street to the dog park where my pooch tested his skills on the park's obstacle course. A great day out.
