This week, I was lucky enough to have breakfast at in a trendy corner in Brompton on Hawker Street. It was a beautiful, picturesque day with the sun out and vibrant blue skies.
The inside of the cafe was bright and spacious with plenty of natural light from outside. I must say that the service was top notch and that we got our meals in a very timely manner.
Getting onto the food, we ordered egg waffles, with caramelised banana, chocolate, honeycomb and double cream and breakfast dumplings with a rich ginger broth. Both meals were absolutely delicious.
The waffles were a perfectly balanced dish; the waffles itself were light and very fluffy, with the sweetness of the dish provided by the banana, the chocolate and the honeycomb. The honeycomb provided crunch to the dish, while the toasted walnuts gave an extra nutty flavour, contrasting beautifully with the rest of the ingredients.
The dumplings were deliciously crisp and light, with a good amount of bacon and eggs to make it a breakfast meal. The ginger broth was vibrant, herbaceous and silky smooth and only served to enhance the flavour of the dish.
For the novelty, I decided to order a taro latte. For those of you who don't know, taro is a type of root vegetable so I was interested to see what it would taste like in a drink. I'm happy to say that it was a hit and something different (sweet, pronounced lavender notes) for those who want an alternative to coffee.
For those of you looking for a new, hip place to have breakfast, I recommend Seven Grounds. You will definitely get your money's worth.
