Dr Seuss books spring to life on stage
Fans of Dr. Seuss' wild and wacky tales take note; Seussical has opened at Frankston Arts Centre, and this action-packed family show is a lot of fun.

Performed by Panorama Theatre Company, Seussical is based on the Dr. Seuss books you know and love. Meet the characters from the Jungle of Nool and Horton the Elephant as he protects Jojo and the citizens of Whoville, all while sitting on Mayzie's nest to look after her egg.

This production is as amusing as it is quirky. Daragh Wills who plays a host-like role, is an entertaining character, who is constantly changing outfits and personas, yet retains his 'Cat in the Hat' lead.

10 year old Lenny Thomas who plays Jojo; the child from the fictional town of Whoville, is a powerful lead for a young performer, playing an all-singing, all-dancing role.

Peter Nicklen plays the lovable Horton the Elephant. Even without a trunk for a nose, he plays the part convincingly well, and the audience can't help but pity his character's mistreatment throughout the story - don't worry though, it all ends well.

The talent doesn't stop there, with Gabi Cronin and her incredible voice, playing the irresponsible, flamboyant Mayzie La Bird, and the much loved Miss Gertrude McFuzz played by Sienna Iscaro, who rightfully portrays the awkward-natured character of the show's one-feathered bird.

The entire cast is abundant, almost half of which are child performers, who are no doubt starting their journey into stage and theatre; their support is evident in the audience, and rightly so.

The show itself is high in energy and is action packed. Stage sets are uncomplicated but work well for each scene, complete with projected images from Dr. Seuss' well-known books.

At the core of this wonderful musical are the relationships formed between the characters, and that's what makes this musical a hit for families.

With bright, happy songs like "The Things you can Think", beautiful ballads such as "Alone in the Universe" and the whole adventure being brought to you by the crazy Cat in the Hat, Seussical is a show for everyone to enjoy.

Seussical by Panorama Theatre Company is performing at Frankston Arts Centre for just one more week.
