This is great Sydney, so excellent, Spring is now here. Find herein the low down on the top kid friendly September events in Sydney for the first month of Spring in 2013. Apologies readers, there was not much to cover for August, hence why there was no article to deliver for August. Enjoy and have a wonderful September, and a chance to welcome in the warmer months once more. These events are presented in date order, not in order of preference.
First off, Father's Day will be held on the 1st of September. To encourage the family to get out of the house, and naturally you would want to when Spring beckons anyway. Therefore, some great family friendly events on the 1st of this month include, and are not limited to the following:
1. SIDS Stampede
The beautiful Hawkesbury region is host to this annual event. The SIDS Stampede is a fun run and combined walking event to raise much needed funds for the Sydney Children's Hospital. There are three different events to choose from in total: 10km run, 5km run and a 5km "friends and family" walk. Sadly, any young child can die from SIDS.
10km run - 7am - adults $40 each/kids $30 each. The time limit to complete this event is two hours.
5km run - 7:30am - adults $25 each/kids $20 each. The time limit to complete this event is 90 minutes.
5km walk - 8am - adults $25 each. As this is a more family friendly event within an event, the ticket price is only $50 for a family of four or more people. The time limit to complete this event is also two hours.
2. Fantasea Harbour Hike
Another walking event. The organisers promise that kids and their fathers can go on the "best walk in the world" this Father's Day. Then again, just like another festival in Sydney, the walk starts at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, one of Sydney's most prominent landmarks, as you all know. This event will be third time lucky for some. This event started in 2010. Other areas covered include Bradley's Head and Kirribilli. This is a 12km walking course. Further information on this event can be found by clicking here.
3. Strathfield Spring Festival
A popular Inner-Western suburb of Sydney, convenient Strathfield is host to the annual Strathfield Spring Festival on the 1st of September 2013. Amusement rides and free musical entertainment are only the beginning. Show bags, games and giveaways are also highlighted. Sports clinics will also be held for those more athletic kids of Sydney. There is something for everyone, and yes even for the dads of Sydney. The Voice finalist Simon Meli will also be performing. Other highlights of the Strathfield Spring Festival include the Big Air School Scooter, and BMX bike demos. Strathfield Plaza, the area's most prominent shopping centre, will also be hosting some "Kidz World of Fun" activities. Free shuttle bus services are provided to transfer families and attendees to the festival from Strathfield train station.
Now for beyond Father's Day this September:
4. Festival of the Winds
Bondi shines again with the Festival of the Winds event, held on Sunday the 8th of September. Right outside the Bondi Pavilion on Bondi Beach, this kite festival shines. In addition to watching some professional kite flyers compete for the glamour of winning, families will also have an opportunity to fly their own kites. Kite flying workshops are also available. Other highlights of this event include puppet shows, art exhibitions, dance workshops and children's rides to name.
5. Better Homes & Gardens LIVE
Held at the Sydney Showgrounds at Sydney Olympic Park from the 20th to the 22nd of September 2013. Just like the TV show on Channel 7 every Friday night. It all comes to life, and the whole family have an amazing day out. Conveniently located right next to the Sydney Olympic Park train station, with regular Olympic Park sprint services departing Lidcombe train station every 10 minutes to get you to the event easily and effortlessly.
