Sunshine is a four part series written by Matt Cameron and Elise McCredie, produced by Ian Collie, Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw (Essential Media Entertainment and Carver Films) for release on SBS Television in October, features the story of young Sudanese men in the suburb of Sunshine in Victoria.

The four main characters (Wally Elnour, Ror Da Poet, Autiak Aweteek and Nick Perry) are part of the 'Kings' basketball team, coached by a local Reverend (Kym Gyngell) who also works to keep the boys out of trouble.

Jacob Garang (Wally Elnour) is trying to get a scholarship to play basketball in the United States. He meets Eddie (Anthony LaPaglia) an ex-NBA player and local sports shop owner, who calls the police on the boys after a suspected theft of a basketball jersey. Later he realises, Jacob and his friends did not steal and starts following to their training sessions in the local park, and later offers to be their coach.

This is crime television series, not a documentary with care taken to consult with the South Sudanese community in Sydney and Melbourne through cultural consultant Ez Eldin Deng.

The series features Wally Elnour's mother on screen and real life footage of the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Many of the South Sudanese community attended opening night which included a viewing of Episode 1 of Sunshine followed by a Q&A session with the cast, creators and producers.

This is the first time the South Sudanese community actors will be featured on Australian television. The event was followed by an after party at ACMI where the television and South Sudanese community mingled and celebrated to the beats of DJ Jen.
