Victoria is full of hidden wonders that I'm only just discovering after having lived in Melbourne for over 25 years.

Just a 50 minute drive from Melbourne, as you head down toward Geelong, is the regional suburb of Lara - and that's where you'll find Serendip Sanctuary - an Australian wildlife animal haven.

Serendip Sanctuary is home to "kangaroos, wallabies, emus and a huge variety of birdlife. The sanctuary is a protected home to hundreds of native animals, including rare and endangered species."

The wildlife sanctuary is located in the traditional Aboriginal country of the Wadawurrung Peoples and they continue to care for the land in association with Parks Victoria.

The distance from Melbourne makes Serendip Sanctuary perfect for a day trip or a longer vacation as you explore Victoria's magnificent coast.

Guided tours are held every Saturday, twice daily at 10am and 12pm. Book a tour by clicking here .
