Melbourne is a family fun destination for the September school holiday. The good folks at Central Geelong Marketing has organised a jam-pack schedule of activities and events for kids and parents from 20 September to 5 October 2014. Best of all, most of the Kid's Fun Programme is FREE.
There are also affordable activities including competitions, exhibitions and events, and special offers and discounts from many local businesses. You can also join a competition to win 1 of 3
family passes to watch 'Still Awake Still' at GPAC for FREE.
This year's theme is 'Creatures' and kids can look forward to a whole host of farmyard animals, magical creatures and monsters. Here are some of the highlights from the 2 weeks of great family entertainment to help you make your family's September school holidays a good one with Central Geelong.
Family Fun Memories, 22 September - Located at the Centre Court of Market Square, kids can enjoy making their own barnyard picture frame and complete it with a photo taken with their favourite animal from 12pm to 2pm.
Active Kids Fitness Sessions, 25 September - Kids aged 4 to 12 years can get
active with boot camp games, exercises and sports at Market Square, just behind Gloria Jeans coffee. Sessions run half hourly from 12pm to 2pm and bookings are required at phone: 03 5221 2411.
Caring for Pets with RSPCA, 26 September - The RSPCA will be hosting 2 sessions for kids to understand more about caring for animals through interactive games. They will learn about the RSPCA's role in helping animals, stories of animal rescues and even make a toy for a cat or dog being care by RSPCA. Kids 5 to 8 years can join session 1 from 10.30am to 11.30am while those aged 9 to 12 years can join the second session at 12pm to 1pm. The sessions are located at GAPA on Gheringhap Street and bookings are required via the Central Geelong website.
Magical Creatures Suncatchers, 26 September - Kids can join the carousel activities between 11am to 12pm at the Waterfront Geelong on 1 Eastern Beach Road where instructions will be provided for making their own magical suncatcher to place in their rooms.
Race Day Carnival, 29 September - Kids can also enjoy Spring Racing by making their on jockey hat and riding horse. Free fairy floss and photobooth will help capture all the horsing around.
Purple November Rain Pompom Workshop, 1 October - Families are invited to come dressed in their favourite purple clothing and enjoy making their own purple pompom from 12pm to 2pm in Market Square. As part of the Reclaim the Night's Purpling Geelong Project, participants can decorate buntings and enjoy free purple face painting by Toyworld.
The Reptile Bus, 3 October - Located at the Steampacket Gardens is the reptile bus where families can get up close to snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, insects and even a crocodile between 10am to 2pm.
Do note that bookings are required for some of the children activities. They can be made via the Central Geelong Marketing booking system and spaces are limited to only 4 children per booking. Accompanying adults are not required to book. In the situation where you are unable to attend, please do the right thing by passing on your tickets to friends or phone: 03 5272 4297 to cancel so another family can enjoy in your place.
