The Seoul Express at Hindley Street is the second branch to be opened in Adelaide, the first being at Glynburn Plaza Plaza at Firle. This restaurant is popular, with a crowd of a good size when we visited.

Their Chi-Bap range consists of Korean Fried Chicken served with a salad and your choice of rice or chips. The sweet soy sauce in the Chi – Soy Chicken dish that we chose had a delectable sweet savoury flavour. The chicken was cooked just right and had a lovely crispy coating. The salad had a delectable tangy taste to it and still retained a bit of crunch. The chips that we chose were fried to golden brown and the seasoning they were tossed in made them pretty moreish.

The portion size of the Jjambbong Bap was quite generous. All the seafood included in the dish did not taste fishy. Tofu provided a change of texture. The spiciness of the broth that the ingredients were cooked in should be suitable for most tastes, and the potato noodles still retained a bit of bite.

The process of cooking their Spicy Pork on the Grill on a hot plate was what imparted the dish with a bit of a charred flavour. The pork was nicely partnered with the cabbage and the sauce gave it a delectable spicy kick. A topping of omelette drizzled with tomato sauce on the rice made it resemble a Korean version of the Japanese dish, Omurice (Japanese Omelette Rice).

For something that is not spicy, there is the Bulgogi on the Grill. The beef was not too tough and the sauce gave the dish the sweet-savoury flavour that you would expect from Beef Bulgogi. Many of their main dishes come with a serving of kimchi.

Great for those wanting something not too filling, the Tteokbboki had Korean rice cakes that were soft with a chewy texture. It was complemented nicely by onions, fish cakes, cabbage and hard-boiled egg. The fried dumplings provided a contrast to the softer ingredients. Compared to the Jjambong Bap, the sauce in the Tteokbboki had a spicier taste.

Aside from being part of the Chi-Bap range, their Korean Fried Chicken can also be ordered by itself. Their Duo Boneless Chicken dish consisted of a half-and-half mix of their Original Boneless Fried Chicken and Sweet Chilli Fried Chicken and fried Korean rice sticks. The spiciness of the Sweet Chilli Chicken is suitable for those not used to spicy foods and the Original Boneless Chicken was very flavoursome. Their Original Boneless Chicken also had a light sprinkling of herbs for a bit of extra flavour.

The decor of the restaurant was bright and had a modern feel. Its location makes it convenient for staff and students from the University of South Australia and TAFE Adelaide to visit and have a delicious Korean meal.
