Abbotsford Convent at 1 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford is constantly ticking along with activities and community events, classes, workshops, markets, food truck parties and more. That's not the only attractive part of the Convent. It's a very relaxing place where people gather at the Convent Bakery for coffee and sustenance; their cafes and restaurants on the grounds, or just sit in their luscious gardens to relax, contemplate or gather with friends at this historic site.
There are also kid's activities that abound and this is one of them. This free event running from 8-20 January 2018 (C3 Contemporary Art Space, Convent Building) is for children aged 1-12 year olds who are invited to ignite their imaginations. Perfect for the school holidays. The free Sensory Art Lab will be held each day from 10am 2pm; no bookings required. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Create hands-on art in the Sensory Art Lab all for free! Discover new experiences, things to see, hear and touch in the Glow in the Dark Sensory Space, to creating a giant woven installation full of vibrant colours, in a stimulating and fun 'DIY' atmosphere.
The Archoloom Weaving room is the place to be, creating a large-scale woven installation on bamboo scaffoldng, made from mixed materials including recycled wool.
The Corridor of Auditable Touch is where you'll create new sounds as you wander through this creative sensory-enabled space.
The Sonic Archery Room uses soft archery arrows to target drum sets, creating great sounds and beats.
The Slam Dunk Space is for creating soft balls for slam dunking.
The Glow in the Dark Sensory Space will have you hearing and touching as you wander through a space specially designed for the young-uns aged 1-2 years.
This program is delivered in partnership with the expert team at Slow Art Collective, whose creative practices focus on environmental sustainability and collaboration.
SENSORY ART LAB CLOSING PARTY
Families are also invited to the very special Sensory Art Lab closing party on Saturday 20 January from 3 5pm. Slow Art Collective's Dylan Martorell and friends will bring the space to life with live music and song. Prams, front packs and slings welcome. Changing facilities are located on the first floor, main Convent building, and Pram parking is available in front of the gallery. Car parking is available in the Convent car park, conveniently located opposite the Convent's main entry on St Heliers Street.
