According to the Queensland Government website "Queensland Seniors Month provides opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, facilitate community participation, and enhance community connections, aligning with the Queensland Government's vision of building age-friendly communities in Queensland."

This year, Queensland Seniors Month will be celebrated from Saturday 1 October to Monday 31 October and includes United Nations International Day of Older Persons (1 October) and National Grandparents Day (30 October), days that recognise the important contribution of older people in their families and communities.

The Redland District Committee on the Ageing, more commonly known as RDCOTA, located at 57 Wynyard Street, Cleveland, is co-sponsoring this year's Seniors Walk as part of Seniors Month in an endeavour to promote physical activity amongst seniors.

On Sunday, 9th October, commencing and finishing at Donald Simpson Park, between Bloomfield and Wynyard Streets in Cleveland, the walk will commence at 7am.

Each participant will receive a circuit map which clearly states the 3km, 5km, 7.5km and 10km at which you can turn around at any point. The beauty of this walk is that you can continue for as far as you choose with encouragement and support from others, and at your own pace. Marshalls will be dotted along the route and water stations will be at the Start/Finish Line as well as the 10km turn around point.

You do need to register to participate in this walk and the registration fee is $5. This covers your circuit map, refreshments, entry into the prize draw and breakfast. Registration fees can be paid at the RDCOTA Office from 9:30am till 2:30pm Monday to Friday.

For any further information contact RDCOTA on 3488 0680.
